Need another reason to monitor your intake of ultra-processed foods? Cutting down on your amounts could help you live longer.

In an observational study published online Feb. 11, 2019, by JAMA Internal Medicine, almost 45,000 adults ages 45 and older completed several dietary assessments over a two-year period. On average, ultra-processed foods made up about 15% of their daily diet as measured in grams.

Ultra-processed food was defined as ready-to-eat and microwaveable foods, such as bread, breakfast cereals, instant noodles, chicken or fish nuggets, chocolate bars and candies, chips, and artificially sweetened beverages.

After nine years, the researchers found a direct statistical connection between higher intake of ultra-processed food and a higher risk of early death from all causes, especially cancers and cardiovascular disease.

Several factors might explain the connection, according to the researchers. Ultra-processed foods often have fewer nutrients than unprocessed foods, and they contain higher amounts of sugar, salt, saturated fat, and food additives, all of which are associated with an increased risk for chronic diseases.

Besides cutting back on processed foods, the researchers suggested people read food labels when shopping and choose products with a shorter list of ingredients and few or no additives.

Definitely, some big companies making peanut burger would be using machine or whatever to make theirs but in this article am going to show you how you can make some peanut burger of your own.

Equipment you need to make peanut burger.

Big mix bowl.

Cooking spoon.

Small pot.

Ingredients to make peanut burger

245 g of flour

1 egg

1 cup of roasted groundnut

2 tbsp of sugar.

1/4 tbsp of nutmeg

1 tbsp of baking powder

A pinch of salt.

Vegetable oil.

Preparation of the peanut burger.

Put the groundnut in the mixing bowl and keep aside.

Put the 245 g of sugar in a bowl.

Add the 2 tbsp of sugar ,1/4 tbsp of nutmeg, 1 tbsp of baking powder and a pinch of salt into the bowl containing the flour.

Mix the dry ingredients well.

Make sure not to use water when mixing it. It should be all plain.

After mixing the whole plain ingredients together, sieve the plain ingredients so it comes out very smooth for the groundnut coating.

When done with this get a small bowl and break the egg into it and whisk well.

Take the bowl containing the whisked egg and drizzle a bit around the groundnut and remain some.

Next use a splatula or cooking spoon to turn the groundnut so as to wet properly on the whisked eggs.

Sprinkle the plain mixed ingredients from the other bowl on the groundnut so it can glue to the groundnut.

Keep drizzing and sprinkling the whisked egg and dry mixed ingredients

When you’ve gotten the nice shaped coated peanut, pour a little amount of vegetable oil in a cooking pot and put it on the cooker to heat up.

When the vegetable oil has heat up, put the coated groundnut into the hot vegetable oil and allow it to fry.

After about 3-4minutes of frying, the coated groundnut should have turned brown.

When you’re done with all frying, put the coated peanut in a bowl and allow it to cool properly then you can now put it a container and server yourself at anytime.

A director at the Ikeja, Lagos-based Shi Shi Chinese Restaurant has said that the outlet caters to only gentlemen, rather than to everyone.

He added that, globally, Chinese restaurants are never open to “every Tom, Dick and Harry.”

The PUNCH had done a story based on a social media post that claimed that the Shi Shi Chinese Restaurant located on 21B, Emina Crescent, Off Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos, does not admit Nigerians.

Our Correspondent who visited the restaurant on Tuesday morning reported that he was accosted at the gate by a security guard wearing Army combat camouflage and prevented him from entering the restaurant.

The Nigerian security man told our Correspondent that he acted on instructions.

However, our Correspondent later introduced himself, and left his business card for the restaurant’s spokesperson when he was told that nobody was available to speak with him.

The restaurant director, a Nigerian who introduced himself as Mr. Niyi Adegbite, called our Correspondent after The PUNCH had published its findings, and declared that, generally, “all over the world, Chinese restaurants are not open to every Tom, Dick and Harry.”

He did claim, however, that the Shi Shi Chinese Restaurant was open to the public.

When asked if Nigerians were allowed to patronise Shi Shi, Adegbite said, “Not really.” He then went on to make clarifications.

According to him, there are two sections in the restaurant — a regular one and one that is strictly for Chinese.

Adegbite said, “I want to debunk all the allegations. The restaurant is open to everyone. But you know, Chinese restaurant is not for every Tom, Dick and Harry. Nobody can just enter.

“Come, and I will conduct you round the restaurant. I’m a Nigerian and how can I prevent my fellow people from entering in? But, of course, it’s for gentlemen, not for everyone.”

When asked how the restaurant defines a gentleman, Adegbite said, “The restaurant is divided into two sections. There is one open to the public and there is one called Hot Spot.

“The Hot Spot is where you enter and cook on your own. All the ingredients are made available. But it’s only for Chinese nationals.

“Maybe it’s this one that some people tried entering and were disallowed and is now causing the outcry.”

Our Correspondent maintained that he was not allowed to step into the restaurant, as he was turned back at the entrance to the premises.

He added that he had only heard of two sections from Mr. Adegbite.

2 cups Regular Rice
Chopped Ugu vegetable
Salt to taste
Seasoning to taste
1 Medium sized Onion
2 Fresh yellow peppers
1/4 cup Smoked Big Prawn
1 Cup Ponmo cut in pieces
1 Tablespoon Ground Crayfish

1 big Smoked catfish, deboned
2 Chopped Paprika Chilli
1 Chopped Habanero Pepper

Heat up pot with palm oil, when it is hot add chopped onions, chopped peppers, locust beans, fry for 3 minutes.
Add roughly blended tomato mix, add crayfish, chopped ponmo, smoked catfish (in pieces) and smoked prawns, seasoning cube and salt. Allow this to fry till the oil floats to the top. Now add water, enough to cook the rice, then add the parboiled rice. Stir so that the ingredients will go around, then cover and allow to cook for 20 minutes/till rice is cooked.

Jollof Spaghetti is almost as common as Jollof Rice and there are so many methods for making it. Here’s one recipe you will use over and over again.

1 500g Pack Spaghetti
1 Medium Tin Tomato
0.45kg Minced Beef
2 Medium sized Onions Chopped
I Medium Sized Green Bell Pepper Chopped
6 Big Tomatoes Sliced
3 Scotch Bonnet Chopped

Salt to taste
Seasoning to taste
½ Teaspoon Paprika
1 Teaspoon Thyme
1 Tea spoon Ginger
3 Bay Leaves
3 Cups Water
¼ Cup Chicken Stock

Add some vegetable oil to a pot, allow to heat up then add chopped Onions, Ginger and some chopped Green Bell Pepper for a minute.
In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup water with tomato paste then pour into the pot. Add salt and seasoning cube to taste. Stir frequently to prevent it from burning and continue till the oil separates-taste it, it should not taste sour anymore.
In another pan, heat up about 2 Tablespoons of oil, onions and green bell pepper, then add the minced beef and fry till the beef goes from pink to brown. Add the fried minced beef into the tomato sauce and stir together. Add ¼ Cup Chicken stock, bay leaf, garlic, paprika, and thyme. Add the spaghetti that was set aside earlier and combine well with sauce.
In a separate pan, saute onions and fresh sliced tomatoes. Add a pinch of salt. Allow to fry till it is cooked, add this to the spaghetti, combine properly and it is ready to eat.

It is easy to cook Basmati Rice wrong, that is because of the rice itself-Basmati Rice does not need a lot of water to cook and once you nail it, it would become an everyday favourite.

10 Tomatoes
4 Scotch Bonnet
2 Tatashe
3 Onions (1 Chopped, 2 Blended with Tomatoes)
1 Table Spoon Tin Tomatoes
1 Teaspoon Ginger (Chopped)
1 Teaspoon Garlic (Chopped)

1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil
1 Teaspoon Butter
1 Teaspoon Thyme
1 Teaspoon Curry
Seasoning to taste
Salt to taste
3 Bay leaves
2 Cups Water
1 Cup Chicken stock

Blend Tomatoes, Pepper, Onions, Ginger, Garlic and boil till all the water is gone.
Heat up a pan, and add vegetable oil. When it is hot, add onions, curry, thyme, bay leaves, seasoning and fry for 1 minute.
Add boiled tomato/pepper mixture to the oil, add 1 spoon of tin tomatoes and fry for 15 minutes. Taste to see if it is cooked.
Add water and chicken stock, then add already washed basmati rice. Stir together.
Cover the pot with foil paper and then pot cover, then reduce the heat. What you need is the heat to cook the rice not water.
Allow cook for 30 minutes or till soft.

Robots have now found their way into the kitchen and are now cooking delicious meals, no longer for the auto industry or big factories alone. In the city of Boston, United States, four graduates Brady Knight, Michael Farid, Luke Schlueter and Kale Rogers recently launched a new fast food restaurant called Spyce and the most fascinating thing about this restaurant is that the entire kitchen staff are made of robots. Robots are the only ones taking your orders, doing the cooking and dishing the food while the human staff just smile at the customers and make them feel at home while explaining the concepts.

For just $7.50 a bowl, you can eat a variety of meals in both Asian, Latin, Thai, Mediterranean styles. These robots have successfully replaced human chefs with robots and they are extremely fast and efficient. The robots undertake tasks such as cooking or serving food, cleaning kitchens, collecting dirty dishes and preparing beverages.

Customers can place their orders by using the touchscreen computers and select whichever food is on the electronic menu, this order is then sent to the kitchen which is visible to the customers where the food is prepared by robots. The robots collects the ingredients from the fridge, slices the onions, vegetables, and other spices, lights up the stoves and starts cooking. Finally, it’s handed over to a human employee who garnishes it, before being distributed to the customer thereby giving them an experience that’s both high-tech and wallet-friendly.

Each meal is made to order in three minutes or less. While meals are cooked, the customer’s name appears on an electronic display above their food, showing their order. The temperature of the pots are time controlled, and the robots cook each meal consistently. Once finished, the pots are automatically washed using hot water jets before another collection of ingredients is dumped inside. Customers are trooping into the restaurants like ants and they are already calling the restaurant to expand their business to other cities across the country.

The picture above shows the four founders of the company and they said the robots add efficiency and lower operating costs. They believe their new technology has allowed them to deliver incredible meals for $7.50 and serve them consistently. They’re excited to be part of the industry and grow with it.

Is this the beginning of a revolution in the fast-food industry that will see robots taking up most of the jobs meant for humans ? Let’s wait and see.

Corned beef stew is a simple red stew made with canned corned beef, it is usually served over boiled macaroni or spaghetti and it goes well with Irish potatoes.

If you have never tried out minced meat stew before, this corned beef stew is for you, it is very is to prepare and indeed an easy breakfast or dinner recipe that doesn’t require much task. All you need is a can of corned beef, few spices and you’re good to go.

Corned beef stew can also be prepared with already made stew, if you have already prepared tomato stew in the freezer; all you need to do is to bring it out to defrost it before you embark on this stew preparation. However, you can just prepare the stew afresh just the way I did from scratch and make sure you go easy with the spices especially the salt since corned beef already contain a good amount of salt in it, you may not even need salt at all.
