Meet the Nigerian artist who has been chosen to paint Barrack Obama’s official portrait

This is Kehinde Wiley. Kehinde is a New York-based portrait painter who is known for his highly naturalistic paintings of black people in heroic poses.

He was born in Los Angeles to a Nigerian father and an African-American mother and his work has gained recognition Acclaimed for his brave portraits which address the image and status of young African-American men in contemporary culture.

Kehinde Wiley was recently announced as the official painter for former President Barack Obama’s official presidential portrait and we are absolutely excited.

He has in the past made portraits of Michael Jackson, Notorious B.I.G. and LL Cool J to name a few.  The portrait is expected to be unveiled sometime in 2018 by the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC.
