An Oredo Magistrate Court, Edo state, has reminded five persons, including two women, in prison custody for allegedly trafficking one Everlin Oghagbon and Mary Osarobo with a view to using them for prostitution abroad.
The accused persons are facing a three-count charge of procurement for prostitution, human traffi cking and illegal entry. The offences committed in May 2016, according to the prosecutor, are contrary to Section 27, 14(b) and 26(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
Th e accused who were also arraigned for “exporting” their victims to Libya for prostitution and other sexual exploitation are Rasheed, 47; Oyasiri, 52; Erhahon, 50; Osarobo, 46, and Egbon, 52. After the arraignment, the prosecutor, Mr. Patrick Agbonifo, told the court that the accused persons “did fraudulent entry of their victims to Libya, when they are not citizens or permanent residents, to obtain financial and material benefit.” In his judgment, Chief Magistrate F. E. Akhere referred the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice. The matter was adjourned till November 24, for hearing.
